5 Letter Words Solver

It checks every one of its 8,636 five-letter words against your clues: green letters must sit in their spot, yellow letters must be in the word but not in the spot you saw them, and grey letters must be absent. Whatever survives is shown, common words first.

This solver checks 8,636: every five-letter word in ENABLE, a public-domain word list. 2,674 of them are everyday words. Wordle's list of accepted guesses is larger, close to 15,000, because it includes many rare words.

2,674 words appear often in everyday English, measured with word-frequency data. Daily word games almost always pick their answers from words like these, so they're shown first.

Enter it in both places. The solver never hides a possible answer: when a letter is both grey and green or yellow, it keeps words with that letter rather than guessing how many copies there are.

RAISE scored best of the words we tested: it leaves about 51 of 1,946 likely answers on average. ARISE is next, at about 54. Follow RAISE with COUNT to test ten different letters in two guesses.

Check that each yellow letter sits in the column where you saw it, and that no letter is in the wrong row. If it still doesn't appear, the word may be missing from our list, which doesn't hold every word a game accepts.
